We Buy Cow Dung for Cooking Gas

Kenyan Maasai produce 10+ million tons of dung every year, releasing methane into the atmosphere. We turn this waste into affordable, compressed biogas — reducing reliance on wood charcoal and protecting Kenya’s forests.

Mission

We incentivize the Maasai community to collect cow dung, which we then convert into compressed biogas. The biogas is packaged in cylinders of various sizes and offered at subsidized rates, with prices determined by the amount of dung contributed.

The Challenge

10+ million tons of dung annually in Maasai regions contribute to methane emissions. Meanwhile, the demand for wood charcoal drives the loss of 5,000 hectares of forests every month nationwide. We are tackling both problems with a single, circular solution.

A Proven Process

Through a proven process of converting dung into biogas, we provide the Maasai community with an affordable alternative source of energy, reducing their reliance on wood charcoal and discouraging deforestation

Dung Collection

We buy dung directly from households and collection points, putting money back into the community.

Biogas Conversion

Organic digestion captures methane, which is filtered, compressed, and stored safely.

Affordable Cooking Gas

Biogas is packaged in cylinders of various sizes and offered at subsidized rates based on dung contributed.

Impact

Our work empowers pastoralist communities to become leaders in the sustainable economic revolution where waste is transformed into wealth, and environmental stewardship is at the heart of prosperity
